Default How can i stop guild wars from Rubberbanding In UW!!

Helllo im currently trying to do some solo uw runs which work fine until i find myself running away from the enemies then, jolting back into a massive group of them im assumming this is what rubberbanding is, but it is driving me mental...

get a better internet connection and download less in the background. other then that nothing you can do to prevent rubberbanding.

fyi its not just UW that has it, its the whole game

Improve your connection.

Seriously. Rubberbanding is, essentially, lag. GW uses a system that "hides" some lag by displaying and predicting your movements and actions even if it doesn't yet get a "reply" from the server. So, if you lag up, it'll have to "admit" that it showed you doing stuff you haven't actually got the server to process and returns you to the last state the server allows.

So, improve your connection. Ideas? Better physical connection, move a WiFi receiver to a better reception location, make sure no background programs interfere/eat the bandwidth, make sure the Anti-virus isn't interfering, etc.

My connection is pretty dam good and i run it off a ethernet cable so signal strength isnt the issue.

Well, then, tough luck. You could tweak stuff with the other programs, otherwise, al you could do would be to buy Anet a nice set of new servers...

Take a look at your ping when you rubberband.

What kind of cpu and gpu are you using? How much RAM do you have?

Try running by clicking the mouse instead of using the keyboard, it reduces latency somewhat. (Don't ask me why, it's for some technical reason )

Type /stuck really fast when your position isn't lining up with the dots on the radar.

Normally, the in-game ping would go red/broken when lagging. Unfortunately, the game servers don't respond to regular (ICMP) ping so you can't double check to see if it's the actual connection at fault or just issues within that server.

Try other servers (Europe vs American vs International).

Also check things with your ISP connection, low quality equipment such as a shoddy modem can sometimes drop packets like mad after it's been on for a while, try resetting it. Same can apply to your router if you have one.

Try not to put yourself into a situation that you could potentially get stuck, like running through a group of baddies, leave yourself plenty room when between baddies & a wall.

Like they said above, you are a few steps ahead of what the server thinks you are doing. Plan accordingly

It's all about recognising where you are walking.

It's not all about ping. I get 40 ping sometimes and still get stuck.

What you need to do is learn how large hitboxes are and enemy behaviour. For example, Aatxes run very fast and it's very easy to get stuck behind their hitbox.

Also, it's important to recognise what happens if you are rubberbanding. For example, enemies that wand you, like Dryders, will keep wanding a spot behind you, even though your are running forward. This means you are rubberbanding and are stuck at the spot they are wanding. The same goes for melee enemies. If you notice a couple of Aatxes that keep attacking a spot you left a few seconds ago, you are stuck there.

Lasty, you don't need type /stuck to get unstuck.

I use space-walking. This means I select an enemy in the direction I want to go and periodically use space to walk there. If you are rubberbanding and press space, it works like /stuck, showing you where you actually are.

You can see how rubberbanding will get you stuck easily behind hitboxes with space-walking also. Walk towards and enemy that is far away. Then press space to walk there. In many cases, you will notice a slight 'jump' of a few feet, showing you the difference between where you thought you were walking and where you are actually walking. That is the difference between walking past an Aatxe and getting stuck behind one.

you could also defrag the .dat file. in some cases wonders do happen.

It can also be a problem when running a zone. I usually realise I'm rubberbanding by the sound of the hits raining on my back even though I am apparently alone. At which point I hit the panic button (ie. something like Feigned Neutrality) and wait to be shown where I really am (in the middle of a mob) before I can decide how to get out.

Any better idea? Unfortunately, when running you don't always have a target to click on and space towards. A skill that shadow steps away from foes can be useful, but I'd rather not waste energy by using it blindly.
